replacement windscreen
« on: 24 April 2007, 14:10:06 »

Im going to be having my windscreen replaced in a couple of months through my insurance company, but what i need to know is will anything else need renewing like the weather strips?

does the company provide those or do i get them, assuming you can get them from vx, will they fit them?
Ive never had a windscreen fitted before, are they as good as the originals? are some companies better than oters? i dont know the company my insurers use yet!

any info would be appreciated

Ive previously had an RAC replacement screen, Would never touch them again, try sponteneous shattering on a hot day!

Got autoglass now, that is fine, much better quality.

Dont know about extra's, left them to it.

They should supply everything but keep an eye on them.

Just had one done on SWMBO's MX-5 and I'm not impressed. Caps over the scuttle fixing screws missing "They were already broken, Mate" - my @rse they were!, glass everywhere, including the heater vents, etc. (used Sammy Sledge to remove the old one, clearly) and scratches in the bodywork around the windscreen seal.

This was from a reputable nationwide breakdown and windscreen company too.

I'd go along with that!

Ronnie McB got a replacement screen that had a nice metallic coating on it to reflect heat, the downside was that it stopped the sat nav getting a signal !
