Remote key operation - hmmm
« on: 02 May 2007, 08:28:13 »

i have a 2000 w facelift saloon, for the last 8months the remote has only been able to unlock the doors, i can only lock the doors with the key in the door and open the boot buy the button inside the car-very annoying now!!

i cant see that its needs reprogramming as the remote unlocks the doors evey time-??

thanks people

That is a peculiar one.

Try "re-synching" the remote first.
Sit in car, turn ignition on, press button on remote. Doors should lock and immediately unlock.

If this does not work, then I suspect a sticking door lock solenoid.

it could well be that the switch for the "lock" button is faulty ... does your remote have a little red light that comes on when you press the unlock button, if so does it also come on when you press the lock button?

As it locks fine with the key I'd suspect the door locking solenoids are probably OK ... the switches in the remotes aren't very clever anyway ...

I thought this straight away but stopped short of posting because of the boot issue :-/

... do you have a spare key and if so do all the buttons on that work? That would prove if the problem lies with the key or not ...

On a reccomendation from another subscriber to this forum, I resoldered the battery connections to the circuit board inside the key fob & the problem was solved
I am happy to resolder yours if you like - it may be the same problem

The key is programmed fine - your issue is with the remote I suspect, probably duff buttons.  Possible the lock mech on the car is knackered, but I think you would see it attempt to lock...

does the red light in the key flash each time you press a button - for lock, unlock and boot release? or just for unlock?

if it flashes for all 3 operations then I reckon that rules out the switches in the key ...

The lights flashed on mine too but failed to operate the locks until I resoldered the battery joints
Suggest you try this as it costs nothing & takes very little time
That way if it doesn't remedy the situation you can stsrt worrying about more expensive options!

Seen a few where the LED flashes, but still needed touching up with iron to get to work...

Just resoldered my own (for the 2000 cdx), I have a theory....

My key, sometimes worked, often didnt, when it did, it would often trigger the alarm!  Car needed to then be started to turn it off.

I reckon the rolling code system get confused with a freqently connecting / disconnecting battery, thus confusing things.

Every successful key operation sort of resync's the key.

So I think if the key doesn't have a constant power supply, regardless the key flashing, ie doing something, it may not be fully sync'd to the car.

probably completely wrong, but does seem to fit my experiences.
