Do you mean the bit is spinning in the plug, or that the plug is turning but not coming out?

Sounds like something has lost its thread - hopefully the plug.

Can you grip it with something - mole grips or big pliers etc and encourage it downwards as you rotate it.  You need to find a way of pulling on it as you unscrew it.

I cut out my copper washer, so I could get under bolt (tractors still use older style plugs).  Did a little damage to sump, which I need to fix.

Are these sump plugs steal? If they are then have a smaller nut welded to the sump plug which will allow you to grip with moles and pull down whilst rotating the actual sump plug with a spanner. This i learnt on an Escort one day many moons ago.
If its an alloy then forget above :-[

Can you get anything between the plug and the sump? Flat bladed screwdriever for example, to provide gentle encouragement.

I replaced my sump pan on my V6 a while back after I hit a slightly raised manhole (in Bolton  :( ) which ripped out the sump plug
For sump reason the steel sump plug screws into an aluminium insert that is pressed into the steel sump pan. All in all it cost me about £50 inc an oil change to sort it.
