Idle control valve

After having  spent a very stressful weekend changing bits that might not have been the problem am now going to do a thorough clean and inspection in morning of tps and wiring/icv and wiring and anything else that causes my mega to run erratic....can anybody give me advise as to best way to clean or service icv as vx want arm and leg for new one and have read before somewhere they can be cleaned and work as new after.

carb cleaner! & and lots of it!!!

Get a flat head screw driver, rotate and open the ICV.

Fill with carb cleaner, and leave for 5 mins. Shake it about and empty, then spray more carb cleaner! use a cloth to clean the bigger pipes.

Stick the screwdriver in the pipe on the top right, push in and down. It will open the ICV. spay the carb cleaner in until its full.

Leave it standing up for a while  :y

NO - DO NOT DO THAT.....you risk damaging the valve face and causing it to stick.....to open the valve, insert a small screwdriver in the front opening and slide the valve body round by pushing against the letters cast into the body...

Its worth realy soaking it well......fill it up as much as you can with carb clenaer and then cover the two openings with your finger and shake it.......lube with a light oil afterwards.

Sometimes a small paintbrush is useful for getting some of the crudd off.

Thanks guys for advise..will get some carb cleaner in morning from Halfords and do as advised..do i just fill it from top pipe entry as per photo and just stand on end for several minutes..then shake and empty?where does the oil then go and how much?  assume it gets blocked up with burnt oil etc so could have been my erratic tickover??

oil goes in the same place your spraying the carb cleaner and put some in and give it a good shake then remove exces

Thanks for info guys...all clean and working fine so expect issues were 6 of 1 and half dozen of other..anyway icv all cleaned and lubed and seems to tick over at steady 650 rpm with a/c on ...thanks again.andrew
