omega 2.0 16v cdx! nothing but ****ing trouble
« on: 05 July 2007, 14:50:00 »

hi all

hope somebody can help, i've had this car for about 4 months. i paid £750 for it. since then it's had all new brakes, discs pads and shoes and handbrake cable. another egr valve new centre and rear exhaust and i'm still having trouble. <exhaust manifold has a crack in it as well apparently!!!>

a couple of weeks ago i was driving down the road and i heard a pop, the car stalled and tried atarting again and wouldn't start agagin straight away. but bout a min later it did. read ecu by the flash codes (as eml light came on) and it said egr valve. got another and fitted it. car went better but was limiting at 4500 rpm, and eml light still on. oh and there is oil on the valves under rocker cover and in plug wells, and very bottom of plugs are covered in oil!

anyone any ideas what it could be and where i can get another manifold <or this one welded>???

cheers, steve. yeadon leeds!

Please help somebody i like the car but always having trouble.  :'(

you need to change the cam cover gaskets.

You cant really weld an Exhaust Manifold as its Cast iron it would cost more to weld than one from a scrapper i picked mine up for £20 from a scrapper Easy job to do. you have to watch out for snapping studs or already snapped studs aprt from that its a breeze.

If you have done the cam cover gaskets (like most recent engines, these cars don't have rockers ;)), did you clean out the spark plug wells? If not, do so (don't remove plug and let oil fall in cylinder). If you did, I'm afraid to need to redo the cam cover gaskets.

When you did the rocker cover gasket did you use the black sealant and did you clean the breather pipes which run from the cover.

Its also recommended to clean the small pipe on the side of the throttle body, found by following the small breather pipe at the front to locate pipe should run under the injector rail.

hi again.

dint take plugs out when changing gasket, took them out before. how can i get breather pipes off as they are a pain with the clips fitted. there was oil actually on the top ov the cam shafts. and loads actually in cylinder. car runs ok, not as fast as was as it limits at 4500rpm. what can cause oil in the top of cyliners so much as to cover the bottom of the plugs? do you's suggest re changing the gasket and clearing the oil offf the cam shafts? also the car is blowing a bit of blue smoke out and  smells a bit!

The cam shafts should be oily! They are fed with oil to lubricate the bearings and cam lobes.

Are you sure the oil on the pistons didn't fall in when you took the plugs out?

am 95% certain. thought they should have some oil on. i've changed plugs twice onthe car to be certain. somebody on vauxhall owners network said cam shaft or crank shaft sensor could of gone that way limits at 4500rpm. if it's the case with the plugs that i didn't get oil in cylinders myself what could be the problem? as i say i really like the car but it's costing me a fortune!

Well, other than the EGR valve, the otehr items are wear and tear consumables.

The first thing you need to do is clean the breathers out and I would recommend doing the idle valve and throttle body to, with these clogged the crankcase will pressurise resulting in further gasket leaks and increased oil consumption.

Also worth adding that its pretty much impossible to remove all the oil from the plug wells before removing the plugs.....

Should have added, EGR valve fault does NOT bring in the 4000rpm limiter.....it generaly just makes the idel pants.
