We back up our websense databases and retain every day 5 tape in a secure offsite location....

returning from backup means you need another alternate place (if sql backup is not used)  for copying the db otherwise you need to stop working websense (if sql backup)..

in that case not practical until it becomes urgent..

ISP's have different priorities than long time logging self workers internet usage data on big disk arrays !

Here also we have huge capacity disk arrays but as an experience web sense we are using is configured as 100 MB database thats cleaned up nearly every week !!
A little one then ;)

Not sure if you have the same rules in Turkey, but UK laws (may be EU law) determine want we have to save and for how long - and we generate hugh logs (Gbs) per day...

then you are unlucky in case of urgency to restore those huge back ups ..

May be its time tell..I work in government organization (treasury department)..Nearly 3000 workers.

Just for those  backup and control operations nearly 40 persons work but believe me

when you go and ask them for restoring backups their face is like this  >:(

Hope yours are different.. :)

Yes, very different. Much larger company, and proper procedures in place for such things :)

Just to remind..May be there will be proper procedures (that also we have) but human factor changes everything..

LOL, very true ;D

Though we, for the most part, have a decent bunch of people, so never too much hassles once you understand the procedures and red tape...

I would never leave stuff like that on the network drive (or even the local drive)... my solution is to burn a load of MP3s onto a DVD-R and just leave it in the drive when I want to listen to music. I'm sure plenty of people do have MP3 and the like on their home drive though, I don't think they really care enough to enforce it round here unless you're downloading them :O
