One nice thing was that lorries are banned from the overtaking lane on 2 lane dual carriageways / motorways, ending the practice of "snail racing". When will they do that here? ........

As soon as bl00dy possible! The number of HGV's (or whatever they call 'emselves these days) that insist on trying to pass each other when they haven't a cat in hell's chance of getting passed of doing so really does pi$$ me off, eg M62 between jcts 22 & 23 up t'hill t' Yorkshire you get 3 lanes of HGV's with a differential speed of about half a mile per hour . When towing I'm legally allowed to go faster, but just not in lane 3.

.............. and breathe!  :y  :y

I was on my way back from sidmouth last weekend on the 303 when some prat did the same thing but in a citreon C4 thing. The thing he did (with kids sat in the back seat) was every time we got to a deul carriagway he would pull strait back out into the outside lane with no indication just to stop me from passing. After he had done this and blocked me from overtaking for a few differant occations i had had enough so dropped back for a stupid run up ( i know i should'nt of done this but at the time enough was enough and he had hit the brakes when ever i was behind him) so back on track with a full belt of the go peddle down and the s button pressed i went for it with the full beam and spots on. This time i think he knew that enough was enough and got strait out the way.
I would never normally drive like this and have never driven like this on the road or on track but he got my back up big time.Rant over.

Problem is, you see, do anything illegal yourself, and then you have no grounds for complaint yourself ...

I was actually very impressed with my own self control, not getting wound up by this daftie  8-)

I'd have dropped him in it.

I have to admit that when on the motorway I have to undertake the occasional MLOC when towing, did it once about 2 miles from the Woolacombe turn off - Police appeared half way through - they were not bothered

Screw em.... if the lane's available I'm going to use it. I don't see why I should be delayed because some self-righteous oppstard feels too proud to use the left hand lane. You don't get this problem of middle lane morons etc in the US, as people just use whatever lane is free. Granted it does become pretty hectic when you have 7 lanes in each direction, but that just discourages all the incompetent idiots from using the freeways in the first place  :D

Just a thought ... what is "undertaking" ?

IMHO it is the deliberate movement from an outside lane to the inside lane to pass then moving back to the outside lane.

Now if I am already in the inside lane and I continue in that lane but pass a slower vehicle on my right I have not "undertaken", as the Highway Code, if I remember correctly, specificaly states that it is permissible for vehicles to pass under conditions where those outer lanes are moving slower - ok it is generally for traffic jams - unfortunately I can't check this as the site is down .. new Highway Code tomorrow.

I have done this several times whilst towing, as I sit left at 60-65 and it is the only way of passing the centre lane idiot doing 50 as I'm not allowed in lane 3

My opinion is that speed limiters on HGVs should be brought into the modern age. If they could detect HGVs ahead which are running on the limiter using some sort of radio system they could react to reduce the closing speed to nothing by the time they are a safe distance ahead. Result - no overtaking unless the HGV in front has dropped below the governed maximum speed by a margin that would allow a reasonably quick overtake.

It's not as if they gain anything by driving at an extra 0.25 MPH for a minute or two.
