You will need the three button key fob. If you get a replacement off of ebay all you need to do is take your chip out of your pad and put into the new one. No need to get new fob coded then job done.

thanks for reply Paul, but the switches are coming adrift from the circuit board, hence I need the whole thing and re-pogramming

The chip is the part that gets programmed. You can take the chip out and put it in the new fob. I do take it that the fob is part of the key and can be separated from the key? Is it like this one?

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VAUXHALL-VECTRA-OMEGA-etc-3-button-REMOTE-ALARM-KEY-FOB_W0QQitemZ300148463402QQihZ020QQcategoryZ10404QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If so then the fob part can come away from the key, so all you will need is to take the chip out and put in the new fob.

The chip is for the engine immobiliser and can be moved, however the fob will need programming if you replace it.

yes, but its not as simple as that, i've already bought one in very good condition and previously tried what you said with no joy, it will start the car but wont opperate the door/boot locks, so i took it to vx for programming, they tried and failed because it works of a diffrent frequency and wouldn't accept the code for my car,

Wasn't aware that their were different frequencies on the three button ones. TheBoy should be able to help you on this one.

just pulled both fobs apart and the circuit boards look very different, on closer inspection (with a magnifying glass) my original one has 92MHz on it, the other one doesn't have any frequency markings, so i think that's my question answered.

 Thanks all

P.S. anyone want to buy a 3 button fob thats not 92MHz v.g.c.

It needs to be the same make (and type) as your working one.  For facelifts, its usually Delphi or Bosch, but you need to check which.  Written on back of fob, if its readable.

Can you tell if it's Delphi or Bosch?

Says on the square panel on the back of the key if not worn away.

Never seen a 3 button one on omega. Does it operate the boot for a saloon then? We purchased a 2-button brand spanker with one of our cars recently, I believe cost was around £55 for the fob and £10 for the auto locksmith/technician to program it.

Facelifts are 3 button (as there is no other way to open the boot unless you are in the car).

Remove kick panel, drivers side - see what make the alam ecu is.
