Probably. There usually is in most engines, 50p for the plug plus a load of heart ache to change it. Don't worry about it if you keep your coolant strength up to date, I've only ever changed 3 in over 25 years of driving - and they weren't for my car anyway.

Quite a lot around the back - HBV, coolant transfer pipe, rubber pipework, if its coming from valley, stat, cooler plate....

Get the system pressure tested, and if the core plug has poped then you will hold no pressure at all but if it is a hose or hbv then it will hold some pressure but will drop over a period of time

been and looked at the car and it does hold pressure.can see around the hbv area brown staining, so suspect it could be hbv or transfer pipe.if like you say it was a core plug i would agree with what you said.does anyone know where the rear core plug is. one previous engines i have seen, the core plug has been below the level of the gear box.it runs at 90 on temp gauge and went up to 93 ish when the fans cut in.when driving it the owner said it got up to about 95 and it worried him but mine runs up to 95 when sitting or moving slowly.has anyone got a picture of the rear of a v6 or can tell me exactly where this core plug is.
cheers michael

Mark is your man for this, but think he said there was one by dispack mounting bracket.

I have a suspected leaking one.

No, if it is as I suggested, I believe it can be done in situ.

They can weep, doesnt have to be torrent.
Mark rebuilt my entire cooling system not long ago, leaving only a core plug as a possibility.
I was losing 2 litres a day, only when the car is cool or cold, on a long hot run, loss was minimal.
