elite t reg autobox
« on: 05 November 2007, 22:50:54 »

I bought a t reg elite in silver last week for £200  :)
a mint car with all the toys
however the autobox problem came with it also.

so i sourced a good gearbox for £100
and got a quote of £120 to fit it
i didnt think it was too bad
what do you guys think ?

i have to get the trans -fluid though.

what problem... no disrespect, but it might have just needed the Selector Switch cleaning out, could have saved you a touch of cash there mate.

One thing I was always taught with vaux autoboxes was when you get one is to first change the trans fluid and filter, then clean the selector BEFORE going to the wreckers to get a new or recon box.

Same reg as mine that mate [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]..... welcome to the Elite club!! Did yours still have the headlight washers as mine have gone AWOL!! [smiley=angry.gif]

no headlamp washers gone as usual.
have had 6 elites and only 2 had them still working and intact
used to
sell them on ebay when i broke the cars.

as for the gearbox problem
the filter was £100 with oil.
i just didn't see the point in changing the filter
with a 50/50 chance of it being  a waste of money

£100 for a filter or £100 for a guaranteed gearbox?
the box currently fitted worked ok for about 6 miles
then stopped working all together for  about 5 hours.
then it would drive again for another 2-5 miles and do it again.
yesterday for the first time the gearbox message came up on the display.
now it doesn't move atall  in any gear lol

the n reg elite is running sweet with 80k on the clock
the t reg has 170k on it

If you join the AutobahnStormers which costs £20 you will get a Trade Card and theres a fella in the club magazine who sells the gearbox oil filters and gaskets for £30. I found this out too late and forked out for the Vauxhall ones :'(

Hard to thrash continually a V6, they don't have to work so hard.

In normal driving, foot often to the floor in a 2.2
rarely have to make the 3.0 work hard unless I'm playing
