2.5v6 conversion into 3.2v6....
« on: 09 November 2007, 17:57:29 »

2.5v6 conversion into 3.2v6....

Does anybody know if a 3.2v6 auto 52 plater engine will go straight into my 2.5v6 manual 1998 hole ??  or does this need some adaption ??  all the help would be appreciated as i have the 3.2 engine but nobody seems to know if it will go straight onto my manual gearbox and i dont fancy pulling it all out to have to put the 2.5v6 back in !!

Cheers guys

I'm thinking you'd need a manual flywheel, don't know if the 2.5 one would fit. Electronics would need some work, with the 2.5 having cable, 3.2 being fly-by-wire. But I'm in no way an expert, I've only enough knowledge to be mildly hazardous when unsupervised.

i think he means that things like throttle control are done by electronics and not by a physical cable running from pedal to intake,

could be wrong tho

cheers

In that case, you'd have to see how much of it you can swap - I'd imagine you'd need the ECU and loom, but then you'd have to use one of our friendly Tech2 operators to get it all working with the various systems.

To be honest, the 3.2 only has en extra 10bhp over a 3.0, you'd probably have less hassle putting in a 3.0 engine.

To do it you need to swap the engine management from your 2.5 to the 3.2 bare block and loose the coil per plug setup.....do this and its feasable.

so is this going to be so much easier just to use a 3.0 lump then ??  whats the power difference between the 2.5 and 3.0 anybody know ??

And does anybody know about say supercharger either the 2.5 or 3.0 engines ??  do the engines themselves need alot of work to be able to handle the extra power or do they survive ????

I personally would just put some 3.0 cams in the 2.5....

I think it's + 20BHP but somebody would need to confirm, it's the same mod as Vauxhall (Well MSD) did with the Vectra 2.5 GSi

An easy 20bhp, pushing it very close to a 3.0. Add a MTEK chip, and it will be great, V close to 3.0 power, with no need for all the heavy mechanical work!

Cams are easy enough, just like doing a cambelt and cam cover gasket change, with a few more bolts ;)

the 3.2 engine will fit straight onto your gearbox, the mounts etc are all the same but you would need to swap both inlet and exhaust manifolds and engine loom from your original engine when the engine is out, which is very straightforward with the engine out.
has anyone ever put a car on a dyno before and after 3.0litre cams been fitted? i`ve always been dubious about the power gains from just fitting cams, cant see how they can bring the power up so close to the 3.0litre engine which already has those cams fitted!

id be interested on that as well. i dont understand how putting 3.0 cams in the 2.5 will give good gains. the 3.0 will always have more torque and bhp is rpm x torque so how can the 2.5 get to similar power to the 3.0  :-?

complete agreement - gains outwith this are marginal. Gains of 3.2 over a 3.0 are also marginal.
