oil cooler change
« on: 03 December 2007, 11:34:18 »

hi guys, not had much time to play with my mv6, but ive got the new oil cooler finally, ive had a search but i cant find out if anyone has done a oil cooler changer how2?

ive got a haynes manual, but i find its almost allways easier to get advice from someone whos done it.

ive worked on my 2ltr vectra but not the v6 or a omega before so any help will be greatly received!

i gather its a case of get the plenums off, drain the coolant (and flush) then take the oil filter off (is this needed?) then unscrew a few bits, remove the oil cooler. clean the engine up and reseal the new cooler with sealant then rescrew everything back up and refill with oil and water?

sounds about right?
anything i should be aware of etc?

thanks!

Strange, I was 100% sure we had one  :-/

here is one from another site

as the owner is here too, maybe we should get him to submit it as a guide ;)

Do NOT bend the oil cooler pipes....undo them with a 19mm crows foot spanner at the oil filter end.

I hate to admit it, but I wish I had listened to that advice.  M_DTM is absolutely correct, bending the oil cooler pipes will give you a whole a heap of problems!
