omega cutting out at speed
« on: 07 February 2008, 19:57:15 »

hello i`m new, but have been looking on this site for a little while. i have a 2.0 omega manual, aint been running right for a while, after seeing the same problem on this site i cleaned the throttle body and the air flow meter and the breather pipes about a month back and it has been running perfectly up untill the start of this week. my new problem is i drive about 7-10 mile then i lose power for a few seconds, then it will cut out, will start up again straight away but with the engine management light on, while the light is on it wont cut out, once parked up after an hour  will start up with out the light on and repeats the same process, done a diagnostic check but nothing is showing up, any ideas any one.

What year is the Omega??
So you have done a paper clip test, and the only code you get is 12?

You need to do a paperclip test.  There will definitely be a code stored if the engine management light has been on, ignore your mate with the diagnostics machine.  Heres instructions how to do the paperclip test.  Search for your model at the bottom of the page, it will tell you which ecu you have.  You will find your diagnostics port under your steering wheel where the fuses are kept.

Don't forget to do your paperclip test with ignition on
but engine NOT running. Or you won't get any codes.

Being a 2.0L '98, I would expect 4 digit codes, not 2 digit.
10 flashes equals 0 (zero).

Your symptoms are the same as you would get for a Crank
Sensor that is starting to break down, but the codes will tell
you, so no jumping to conclusions.  ;)

First is code 12- normal, start test code, and is repeated 3 times.
All the codes should repeat themselves 3 times, is this what happened?
So you have 12, 93 and 73 correct?

12 = start of test
93 = Hall Effect Switch (low voltage)
73 = air flow sensor (low voltage)
31 = Crankshaft sensor (no Signal)

I am guessing that the engine was switched off when you did this, try it with the engine running and see what codes come back
