Just after a bit of advice really or just a fresh train of thought from somebody, i have a 98 3.0 elite with the common abs ecu problem (abs light,no speedo) trying to figure out how to go about it, No 1 remove old ecu replace with new ecu (well one from a breakers) then get the new ecu coded by tech2 mobile mechanic. or No 2 remove ecu from car send it away get it repaired then just plug it in and its sorted,problem with this option is the car is off the road for 2-3 days as opposed to getting it done in one day. :-?  Also is it best to try and take the ecu off whilst leaving the abs modulator bolted to the car thus not removing the brake pipes,or take the whole thing out and then remove the ecu i've been given the pluses and minus'es to both ways by mates but hoping for some superior knowledge from you guys

Recently done this on 2.5 Elite 98 - got 2nd hand one off OOF for around £40 - from exactly same year/spec motor - checked part nº.
Left modulator on & just swapped ecu.  Only removed top hose & moved fuse box back a little. Just enough room with right tools to swap out.  Hardest bolt to remove is bottom right (looking from front) - left this one out on refitting.  IIRC took about 3½ - 4 hours.  Started car - all ok even tc light out.

I have a 3.0 auto Elite one here if you need it but its from a 95 so if you let me know the part number on yours I can check if its the same or not

I did mine as per Dbug.

I think it was Entwood who had his couriered to BBA Reman and back quickly after they reconned it. If that option had been available to me I would have done it that way. As it was I swapped the ecu for a secondhand one bought from an OOFer. Tackle the bottom right bolt early on rather than leaving it till last.  

One other tip would be to keep an eye on steering pump pipe conns afterwards as one of my connectors came loose in the melee.

Good luck, it was an absolute joy getting cruise back after the change.

Pretty sure 95 to 98 isnt swapable  3 channel on prefacelift, 4 on minifacelift (which is the unreliable one)

i have a abs pump with ecu for sale  no  0265220427 on pump

Yup sure was me   .. The main reason I went that way was speed, there appeared to be no scrappy units around at the time for a 99 2.5. I'm pleased I did due to the speed and quality of the work.. and the 2 year warranty !!  Just how many scrappies will give you that !!
