Automatic Transmission Gaskets & Filter
« on: 01 March 2008, 15:01:17 »

`Been down to the motor-factors and the Vx. stealer today; I wanted the two auto-box sump gaskets and a new filter.....helpful chap at the motor factors said they don`t have them in their catalogue and the dealer said (and strap yourself in for this):o

"They" (Vauxhall, presumably) don`t do just gaskets and filters, only 'service packs'; which will have to be specially ordered from Germany, cost: £128.12 +VAT ....to which I said: WTF!  :o

I think I surely must`ve got the "Saturday Boy" at the counter as he was more interested in whether is a was "a 4/5 or 6 (!!!!) speed automatic".....to which all I could say was......What?????? It`s an Omega, an O-m-e-g-a!  :'(

Please, `anyone know where I can mail-order the transmission gaskets and a filter for my `99 CD 2.5 V6....at a sensible cost.

Jimbob kindly referred me to a chap whom advertises filters and such in Autobahnstormers magazine; but I`m not currently a member of ABS.

BTW: for future reference; should the correct transmission designation for my car be AR35?

I got mine mail order from a company called Jpat.

Do a search on this forum or google them. Filter and the TWO pan gaskets was about £38. Nicely packaged and promptly desptached.

The AR35 is the 3.0 litre box. Our 2.5's have a weaker but supposedly adequate box - the AR25. If I could get my hands on the blighter that "designed " the thrust washer.............

I found that refilling and topping up the box through the " level" plug on the side was best achieved by several feet of plastic pipe and a funnel and an assistant. Thread it up into the engine bay. Watch out for the hot exhaust pipe.

When Sassanach did mine he used instant gasket and cleaned the filter.

ABS do the full kit for £30.

I'll have to bear this in mind if I ever get round to asking my local Vx stealer the cost of changing the ATF.  They seem to like replacing the filter when doing this.

I would have thought a PM to 'andy c', being a Vx parts person, would get a sensible answer.

Please DO NOT hijack this thread - you have your own thread for a paperclip test, on which we have all sent you numerous links to the instructions :y

Thanks.
