Oil leak
« on: 28 March 2008, 22:05:01 »

Whilst washing my car today I noticed a small drop of oil on yhe floor. When I looked there was oil on the rear sump bolts. Im hoping its "just" the sump gasket that needs sorting. Can this be tightened up more to see if that helps?? Anything else it could be? Sorry but new to omegas.  :'( :-[

If it's a v6 then it's more than likely the cam cover gaskets, loads of info on here about it :y

Pull a plug lead out and the wells will probably be full of oil if it is the gaskets, very very common problem on miggys.

I did mine a few months back and used this guide...

Not that hard if you've got a bit of mechanical knowledge :y

Cam cover gaskets ... :)

Took me about a day the first time .. following the instructions in the guides..

It is IMPERATIVE to use ONLY genuine Vx gaskets, to clean the Breather system at the same time, and to use the BLACK sealant.

If you don't the problem will reoccur within a year !!!  :(

No mate, just pull the easiest one to get to.

I keep checking mine but everything's still ok atm.

Mine used to drip with oil when i pulled one out, that's how i knew it had to be done pretty sharpish.

The guide lists the correct BLACK sealant from Vx .. who also do a greeny coloured one .. some dealers just grab "sealant" and you end up with the wrong stuff ... the green stuff won't last long on the cam covers   :)

BTW .. if you are going to buy all the bits for the cam cover gaskets.. including all the o-rings, throttle body gaskets etc etc .. get a trade card from ABS .. £20 ... it'll save you a fortune in the long run .. and only takes a week to get.
