Either way...wouldnt suggest driving the car until you know whats wrong for sure...if water pump fails it can cause high temperatures and head gasket failure...if its the cam belt tensioners rattling and on their way out...when they go, goodbye engine!

May, if its the aux belt area rattling (the belt that runs the water pump etc) be a bearing gone on the alternator or something like that??

Definately worth checking it out properly buddy, as Chris advises.
My first omega had a water pump problem & the cam belt snapped on third lane of motorway, luckily with little traffic at the time of the evening i managed to veer on to hard shoulder.  The result was then a £1586 bill from my local friendly Vauxhall dealershiit, I mean ship.

cambelt and tensioners need changing every 40k or 4 years ,whichever comes first.you ought to get the belt changed and do the water pump and aux. belt while your at it.check the aux. belt tensioner while your there as they sometimes get noisy and fail.if the noise is from the front of the engine then doing these routine maintenance jobs will most likely cure it. :y

Remove the auxillary belt then start the engine if the noise disappears you'll know it something related to that, while it's off check all the pulleys.

A new tensioner pulley is very cheap and a 10 minute job to change ...  :)

makes these noisy V6's go back to quiet in just a few short moments .. :)
