I just purchased a 2.5 A good blend of power with resonable mpg. Problem is start stop driving kills the mpg on any car

yer mpg is a pain but using an old corsa as a run around at the mo and its just about doing 25 to the gallon so anything better than that is good but my work pays for some of the miles which helps.  :y

I would go for the 2.5, more power than the 2.0 and more MPG than the 3.0 :)

from personal experience i have found the 2.0 can be underpowered as it is a heavy car for it to push ,

Virtually all my journes are short ones, 6 miles to work and 6 miles home again, about 15-20 minutes. I had a 2.0 then my father gave me his 2.5. The difference in petrol is nil, and both have auto boxes.
The trip meter thingy says I do about 19.4 mpg with an average speed of 19 mph.

yer was thinking the 2.0 was underpowerd had an old 8v many years back and couldnt pull the skin from a rice pudding 19mpg that scary but guess that expected of a v6 my work is 15 miles from my house its a good run but it the little trips i have to make to peoples houses (am a care worker/social worker) that the prolem but worth it for a nive v6 miggy :) 8-)

yer 3.0 mv6.... on a good run of 15-20 miles I get 28-30 mpg provided there arent too many roundabouts. I get 20-23 mpg round town. I think with the kind of driving you will be doing you will only notice 2-3 mpg difference for getting the 2.5

at any rate be very careful with the car you buy. check for oil leaks around the rocker covers. you can tell by oil dripping onto the exhaust manifold. If the engine has been jet/steam cleaned be very wary. pull out the middle plug leads from each bank to check for oil. get the seller to replace gaskets before sale if there is any sign of oil int he plug wells. this is the same for any omega v6.

also take a torch and shine it onto the belly pan. if it's got water on it it has likely got a cracked heater bypass valve which will use up some water and may eventually result in a nackered dispack.

I didn't check these things.... :(

the other major thing to check is for mayonaise under the oil filler cap as that would denote a possible failed oil cooler (a tad pricey to fix!)

These are I believe the most common engine problems to be wary of on the v6 marks.

I do 18 miles each way to work... Mostly dual carriageway with about 12 roundabouts. As long as i behave with the loud pedal i get about 24mpg over the course of 4 days. I'd highly recommend an elite if you can get one!

I'd go with a 2.5 Elite and then after a while if the wallet can stand the strain of the fuel bills, add a set of 3.0 cams ;)

The 3.0 cams bring the 2.5 pretty close to 3.0 BHP. A manual Elite is quite rare but worth it if you can find one ;)
