98 R 2.5 v6 FAILS TO START AFTER DRIVING 300 MILES
« on: 06 May 2008, 13:38:57 »

Well fellow members, here's a puzzle for you, drove 300 to hotel by gatwick airport sa I was picking up a family member, stopped in hotel over night, next day car fails to start, call RAC, car is sparking and fires with a mist of easy start but no petrol delivery, pump not pumping.

Only 6 volts being delivered to petrol pump on RAC volt meg, conect switchable live supply to pump pump delivers petrol but then no spark.
So I have a car with 6volts at pump, no petrol and no spark.

Car has been bought by RAC relay back home but Vauxhall cannot look at it for two weeks due to Corsa and Vectra recalls.

Would like any suggestions or advise on what to look for/test or should I just put a gallon of petrol inside and put a match to it.
 :(

First off, read the fault codes.....might be a code 19.

Sorry, I don't pay any RAC or AA diag info any credence as its rarely any where near correct.

When you say delivers petrol how have you checked this!  I am assuming the engine turns over without any problem!  Have you got the engine management light on?  Have you done a paperclip test?

You might find vauxhall just as useless as the aa, just with your WALLET OPEN they'll eventually get it to go! :-/

Hi fellow members,

Well the car decided to start last night, and agin this morning, then refused to start again when I was out.

Did paperclip test, well the fault codes are 135, 31.

135 telltale (checklight) voltage low I have'n a clue what that means.

31  no engine RPM signal, no engine running.

Anybody any further suggestions

any help would be gratefully received

You would need to redo the test with the engine running to eliminate the crank shaft sensor...

Have you tried removing the fuel filler cap?  Might be a blocked vent valve which means pump is struggling to suck fuel as its also trying to suck the tank flat.

Could also be a blocked fuel filter, and the pump has gotten progressively weaker as its tried to force the fuel through.

Good news if it is the pump, virtually any MPI pump will fit your Omega (Cavalier, Calibra, Astra, Vectra, etc)

Hi, Yes it was a genuine cranshaft sensor.

Tried releasing the petrol cap as suggested, also changed the fuel filter.

Car is still not running.

Any other suggestions gratefully received.
