water in car
« on: 30 May 2008, 17:14:16 »

Hello again

My  v6 omega has developed a water leak of epic proportions. :-?

The thing is the passenger side front and rear carpet is soaking wet, and smells of antifreeze.

Has this happened to any one else, if so what was the cause.

Regards

Chris Fisher  :)

Hi Chris

If the water definately has anti freeze in it then I would say the heater matrix or pipe leading to it has sprung a leek, but first I would check this

could it be screenwash /water from windscreen washers leaking into car due to blocked scuttle drain.?

That's where I would look. Blocked scuttle drain. Common fault and easy to check.

Thanks
Mike

Thanks for that.. I will check the scuttle drains,

The idea of the heater matrix sound favorite, as the header tank needs toping up every day.. and the footwells are literally soaking wet.

Where abouts is the hbv, i'll have to get a haynes manual wont i, just get stuck in and sort it..

Is it a massive job to get to the heater matrix..

Chris.

Yup, fairly big, lot of work needed.

Could have been prevented by keeping the scuttle drain clear!

HBV is at the rear of the engine on the drivers side.... i think! don't own a V6, so forget which side it is.

HBV is behind engine (back of the v) under the scuttle,(remove, with wipers).3 water hoses  with metal clips(long handled long nose plyers), and a vac pipe on top. Pig to get at, feet off the ground job. You'll see. Never done heater matrix. Hope helps. Good luck with it.:-)
