HBV Operation ??
« on: 09 June 2008, 00:17:57 »

Hi,
It has been quite warm today, and Air Con has been on full cooling and car interior quite cool.
However, although the cooling pipes to and from the evaporator are really really cold, air delivery from vents is only 10 deg C and I am sure air delivery used to be colder on my old Senator and Safrane.

I checked the hot water pipes to and from the heater, and thay were very hot. Although the air control flaps from the heater section are obviously shut, there must be some radiated heat from that area in the climate control system that must be adding to the overall cooling load. Under the operating conditions today I would have expected them to be cold, as surely the point of the HBV is to turn off the hot water when not needed.

I know that on the Senator and Safrane hot water circulated continually through the heater, but what is the point of a HBV then if it doesn't by pass the heater.

I know the Climate control controls the HBV, but I can't see how. I can't see any vac pipes connected to it unlike you can on the the older Climate control systems.

Any observations on how the HBV is operated on 2002 Omega's are welcome.

Roger

HBV operated by climate panel via vac pipe through baukhead and on to HBV.

Yes, but does this apply to the face lift cars as well, Big Roger does not seem to have a vacuum connection on his HBV.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

Yes. There should be a vacuum supply from a reservoir under the scuttle connected through the bulkhead by the heater coolant pipes to operate actuators in the climate system. A controlled supply then passes back through the blukhead, again adjacent to the coolant pipes, to control the HBV.

First job is to find the vacuum pipe for the HBV. It may just be floating around under there. Might be worth putting a vacuum gauge on it to check it receives vacuum when the climate is set to "LO".

I have a similar issue. Hot coolant pipes all the time and mediocre cooling so I will be heading down a similar investigative route.

All models have Vacc to HBV

No vacc to HBV will mean that heat is coming in the cabin when it shouldn't be ;)
