Elite Washer Bottle
« on: 18 June 2008, 21:33:26 »

MOT today, wipers and washers fine.

Goes to my mates afterwards and no water.   Had a think back knowing the bottle and all fluids had been checked, but was surprised as I hadnt used the washers much.

Topped up, took 0.5 litre of water, washer now working fine.

Why only .5 litre from not working to working.

Any idea's, am going to check it out tomorrow as I remember a mention regards water filter/pickup.

TIA.   :y

my 99 cdx used to do that, nevr found out why, thought it was as if the fluid had run back down the pipes to the bottle and took ages to pump back up to the nozzle again. used to pump air then come back again after dash warning as well, as if to make you think it had run out and need to fill it again but there was always a bit more in there. :-/

I had the dash warning up on my elite some time ago and kept filling it up every week. Turned out that the previous owner may have taken out the pumps to clean filters and didn't put it back properly and it had a slow leak. As it was over the winter months i didn't notice it as the roads were mainly wet most of the time. When i did notice the leak i took out both pumps, one for screens and the other for headlights, and cleaned filters and replaced properly. no probs since then. Only a 10 min job to do both. :y

Intermittent washer operation is usually lumps of gung block the pump filter.

2 mins to sort, but plug the hole with your finger whilst doing it or you'll lose all your washer fluid.

how do you clean the filters? i've got the bottle out at the moment due to accident so might as well spruce it up while it's in bits :y

Do you use screen wash or just plain water?  I would be tempted to pop the pump out and flush it 2 or or 3 times and then refit the pump and fill it back up and see if it makes a difference.

Tried doing this and still goes smelly quite quickly! I might try a stronger concentration of screenwash, although I already have it quite strong!

I can only assume it's because of the location of the bottle meaning it gets warmed a little by the rad? :-/ :-/

Easier with a face lift car though as the bottle is in full view when you have the bonnet open.  ;) Lesser mortals have a grille to remove to gain access!  ;D  :y
A Bic pen also seals the grommet nicely if it's just the pump you're removing.

The thought had crossed my mind! But no... Perhaps it'll sort itself out if I used them more! I might not treat the screen with rainex for a while and see if I get an improvement when I need to use the washers more! :-?
