Severe uneaven tyre wear

On the front tyres the inner are down to the nylon, the outsides have very good tread. What should be considered in trying to minimise this as I am replacing all four this week.

Common fault.

Get your arse down to WIM pretty damn quick - the £85 it will cost is cheaper than constantly buying new tyres.

Wheels In Motion.  Never used them myself because I'm not aware of one in my area.  You need your geometry set up.  My tyres only had a few thousand miles and they were worn on the insides.

Basically as Omegas get older the springs sag a bit and the camber setting goes out.

The manufacturer's figures are daft - the tolerances are so wide if the wheel is attached to the car they'll be "in spec".

So you need someone who knows what they are doing to check for play and if all OK set the camber and toe correctly (not just to "spec").

South BUCKS.  Between High Wycombe and Hemel Hempstead.

Recommended, as they know its not just a case of getting it between manufacturers spec....

 hi nursey. a little test for you if you fancy. Got this with help of Rob at the Reading meat. With the car parked up, put your foot on the top of the wheel under the wheel arch about 10/11 o'clock and stand by the bumper with the other foot, now push the wheel back to the rear of the car while looking at the centre of the wheel, if it even so much as smells like any movement or play, then i think you may well need  new wishbones, do both front wheels in both directions. Or wim will diagnose no doubt but if they say they are buggerd i guess that means a return visit? Will wim fit them for you if you need them and you have some with you, or does this just complicate things. Food for thought. ;)

on my experience but I will repeat it here.

This tyre wear pattern is not cosistent across the thread. Only the inner 20mm or so gets badly worn while the rest is evenly worn. I don't think it is camber or tracking because the effects of these are usually proportional across the whole tread.

In my case, the front wishbone bushes were badly worn, causing severe toe out under breaking - hence the wear pattern. At rest, on the ramps, the tracking and camber were checked and were in spec. Fitting new ones was not a painless task but worth doing for the new tyres.

Ow contrare........camber wear is extreme and confined to a very small percentage of the tread area.....

Consider a rectangle which has its base flat to the desk....not tilt it slightly....how much of its base is now touching the desk. This is just an-analogy as tires don't have 90deg corners but, it gives you a quick incite as to why camber wear confined to small edge patches on tires!
