Aircon and KwikFit
« on: 10 May 2008, 21:41:49 »

Hi Lads,

Just had my aircon gassed up by KF.  Before the re-gas it was blowing warm moist air and since it has been blowing cold, but not that cold.

The chap at KF measured the aircon temp through one of the vents and after a few mins the temp dropped to 10 degrees, which i thought was ok.

Since then i drove to brummy and back and i wasn't too chuffed with the aircon peformance TBH.  If i set both sides to LO and A it was cool but not as cool as lets say the fonze!

It is possible that the KF guy didn't do a good job or could my aircon need a Tech2?

I might go back to KF but i will wait on OOF just in case...

Cheers

Do they have particulate filters like the Peugeot 206???

Had my car regassed cos it was running warm, didnt really do anything...a specialist garage I spoke to said change the filter, thats the problem...I washed it and ice cold air...

I like the words FREE and CHEAP  ;D

PS: Where is the filter?  Not too sure if haynes would cover an aircon system, but i'll just have a look.

Thanks anyway  :)

My climate aint anything special either.......

But worth checking pollen filter......if its blocked could be restricting airflow....

I can measure 5C with a probe shoved down the centre airvents.......but that is with it on manual, set to LO and fan speed on 2 or 3 ......leave it on auto and it carnt get anywhere close to that temp.

When on auto and say set to 18C its not that cold and fans run on max speed.....in this weather were having.

Also maybe worth getting climate ecu update to latest firmware......ive heard that does improve things.......having said that mines at the latest firmware.

I have exactly the same issue with mine. Cooling to about 10-12 degrees but not that special (gassed at KF last year). Was having a look at it today and noticed that I have piping hot plumbing to the heater matrix when set on LO so I'll be investigating the operation of the HBV next I think.

The pollen filter is just like an engine air filter except it takes the 'pollen' bit out of the air before its fed into the car cabin.

The filter/dryer referred to is to filter and dry the aircon refridgerant within an enclosed aircon system and thus is not rutinely servicable without a complete dgas and clean of the component parts....

If the pollen filter was blocked and restricting airflow surely the small amount of air coming in would be even colder ??? - or am I being a numpty ??

I accept the filter/dryer is not a "quick fix" but it was the first thing the specalists went for with my problem. Apparently this should be changed every 2 years, but because it needs a de-gas rarely is. The symptoms I had - either a filter/dryer or a stuck expansion valve - needed a de-gas anyway so they suggested a filter/dryer change anyway ... it was when they removed it they found all the horrible gunge .. :(

Darn it!  the cheap and free bit didn't last long  >:(

Kev - I just installed a new HBV as it was leaking, so i will tick that off my check list.  One thing that might be a cause for concern is my LPG water pipes... I followed Martin's (imbers?) LPG water works diagram so i hope it's ok.  I seem to recall Ting off the input of the HBV and returning the flow to the lower of the two outputs.

To the owner of this pic... please can i use it??  :D  I will take it down if you object. Regards

No your not  :y......you would expect the temp to be colder if restricted airflow.......but it was a KF fitter measuring the temp  :-X

If the HBV is OK, it could still be the vacuum supply to it that's problematic. :-/

LPG plumbing looks OK. HBV is stll controlling flow to the heater matrix.
