Omega with a duplex cam chain
« on: 16 August 2008, 19:09:12 »

Hi Guys
I'm interested in buying a 2.5cdx with 88k on the clock.I have asked the seller if the cam belt has been changed and he told me that it hasn't as it is a chain. I have not heard of 2.5 engines having a cam chain. Question is ' Can you get 2.5 v6 Omega engines with a chain driven cam?' :-/

All Petrol Vauxhal Omegas have cambelts.  Diesels, including 2.5TD, have chains.

The car is a 'diesel' or the seller is a 'tosspot'.

Its not a deisel, so I'll go with the 'He's a tosspot!'

a common ploy to distract from the belt issue. Reply "its a chain" and the unaware dont ask any more. He either thinks you dont know what your doing, an insult, knows nothing about the car and is trying to bs you, an insult, thinks it a diesel, muppet, is trying to hide a belt issue. Probably knows it needs doing and does not want you to say do the belt and ill have it. Be very carefull if you ask me. Good luck.

I'll still look at it but the buying price goes down or he's stuck with it.
The asking price is £1500 for  Y reg 2.5 CDX Estate. What do you guys think?

The 2.5 diesel is not a duplex timing chain either....its a single setup (although there are more than one as it also drives the diesel pump) which results in stretching at high milegae particularly if not serviced correctly.

The car seems about the right price to me, but I'm just concerned about the cam belt not being changed.
Jimbob if I don't buy it then I will send you the link cos its not far away from your area.

Being a Y-reg that car will be subject to the proposed road tax changes.  That will affect the value.
