Halfords...grrrrr
« on: 29 October 2007, 13:06:40 »

went to halfords yesterday as I needed some solder and heat shrink for the lpg conversion.

after spending 15 mins wandering around I decided to ask someone....the response was unreal..
'you want a builders merchants for that mate'
eh???
'you mean solder for heating piping, yeah?'
no I mean solder for wiring looms
'Ahh right....nah mate we sell bullet or spade connectors and insulation tape, don't bother with solder, too risky, the heat could blow the car up'

okaaaaaaaaaay

where do they get these people from?

But seriously... you weren't asking him to actually do it... that's like saying "we don't sell nails in case you spill them and stand on them"...

Halfords sell Draper soldering irons and solder, there should be a complete Draper section within the tools area.

I worked there for a few years on and off whilst at Uni and experienced their selection process first hand... not good.

My cat could get a job there.

This reminds me of the time I went to purchase an alternator for my Diesel Transit.  The chap behind the counter asked "is it an injection mate?".  I replied, "it is a diesel and all diesels are injection".  "Oh, I didn't know that" he said.

"Way too risky, the heat could blow the car up?"  Made me laugh.  If you used the solder that they were suggesting then yes, I suppose a blow lamp would put the car in danger!

Maplins' I'd rather drink raw sewage that use that place...   From my experience, our local staff at Maplins in Stoke are not with it at all, I'm getting an account with RS... Maplins will end up like Tandy..

Try RS online...

I also live on BikeMagic.com (http://www.bikemagic.com/forum/latestdiscussions.asp?dt=1&SP=&V=6) and Halfrauds are popular on there too!
I actually have a mate who wokrs in Halfrauds, but he does know his stuff when it comes to bikes. Come to think of it I'm not sure how he managed to get the job, they normally only take rejects from village idiot competitions.
