its always one of the options when getting an online quotation; when they ask about alarms in the drop down it says 'factory alarm/immobiliser' and 'thatcham cat 1 approved' or something like that, thought i'd check before i go for a renewal next month!

Then you need to select "factory alarm/immobiliser" instead - otherwise you're implying it's a professionally-fitted aftermarket system that's been tested by Thatcham.  If your car got stolen, a jobsworth claims handler could kick up a fuss if you couldn't (and you wouldn't be able to) send them the certificate of fitting.

The Omega setup has been tested and approved by Thatcham

The immobilser meets Cat 2 and with the alarm Cat 1 is achieved.

Thatcham is for alarm and immobiliser aporoval and is not specific to the after market and hence it does NOT imply that an after market security device has been fitted :y

I disagree strongly - if what you've said were true, what is the point of the "standard fit alarm/immobiliser" option on the quotation?

Actually - Marks DTM is correct - the option is there as some manufacturers standard security does not necessarily meet thatcham standards or they may not have tested them yet

Correct!

Reality is that the insurers will be aware that the standard fit is thatcham approved though.
