Windscreen washers help me
« on: 03 September 2008, 22:11:47 »

Hi guys got an SOS for ya, I have a 3.0 EV6 and love it to pieces, thing is my washers have just packed up they were working and then they weren't, even the head light washes not working.  It's been like this for 2 days now but this morning i tried em and i could hear the headlight washer motor working but not the windscreen washer motor, now it's stopped again and i got nada...  I striped the grill out and pulled both pumps, jiggled the wires and traced the wires back to behind the foglight but am at wall now, I think it's a power problem but am hoping one of you guys can give me a little insight, it's not the fuse as the wipers are still wearing themselves out on a dry windscreen with all the stalk pulling I'm doing. Please help

Not wanting to sound wide, but there is water in the bottle, isn't there, with no hoses fallen out?

Puddle underneath the car when washers operated?

Always worth a check....   :y

where to start. Check water full, no leaks or pipes fallen off as said. Is the pump(s) making a noise? If yes check the filter in the built in grommit that the pump plugs into. If no usually the fuse or pump buggerd but check connections as well.

Having said  that my old cdx  used to take ages to pump the air out if the water had run out. Some times it would come in and out. Some times when the warning came up on the display it would stop as if empty, and them later start up again. If the pump is making a noise with full bottle and no leaks
And the filter is clear with clear washer nozel, maybe run i hose on your screen to save the blades and screen from scratching and leave the pump running longer to see if it comes in. Maybe an air lock or just air in the system? Or take the hose of the back of the nozel and see if the water comes out of the pipe under the bonnet. If the nozel is heated sometimes they scale up, always use screen wash it keeps the system clear of white gunk that grows in the bottle. Hope helps.

When I got my Miggy one windscreen washer jet blocked up almost straight away! The second one followed the first soon after and the pump packed up while we were on holiday so it depends on what's been put in the washer bottle (if you see what I mean!) Some people put far too much screenwash in the bottle which tends to clog nozzles and pumps. Is the pump running?

PS The connector on mine had seen better days as well. That's what I thought the problem was with the pump not running initialy!

Cheap screen wash does not help either, I actually find the Vx stuff (on trade club) about the best!

Yeah there is water in the bottle, emptied out when removing pump but refilled.

There is no motor noise what so ever but some times it starts working, like i mentioned in my initial post "nothing working then headlight washer pump fires up now stopped again. Fuse is ok as wipers are going, does the headlight washer motor need the windscreen motor to be working to work itself? i think it might be the pump thats gone but with the headlight washer pump dead aswell am more inclined to think it is a power problem somewhere along the loom

Yes, check for volts at the pump if both are not working....work back to the stalk in the car.

Check the connector on the back of the pump if it's intermittent. Mine was green and grotty although it wasn't the problem in the end!
