Key programming question..
« on: 14 September 2008, 00:08:06 »

Another car I'm watching on FleaBay (98 2.5 petrol auto) and according to the RAC it can't read the key so doesn't run. Easy? hard? expensive?

Ask seller for more info on the symptoms.

Sounds like perhaps it's cranking and not firing.  If it's really not reading the key, the engine management light would be flashing whilst it's cranking and not firing.  If there is no flashing whilst cranking it's something else.  Possibly crank sensor, as just happenned to mine, or even something like fuel pump relay (diagnose by seeing if it fires with easystart).

Any car will do at the moment, just this one is cheap and if relatively easy to fix would turn into a bargain ;)
