Broken Front Spring!
« on: 17 September 2008, 19:29:56 »

I was investigating an on/off rattle from the front nearside and discovered that the bottom section of the spring has snapped off!! Its the very bottom coil and judging by the rust its been like it for some time.  Does anyone know how much they are?  and are they difficult to change?

Also I've noticed that the inside edge of the front offside tyre is worn and I read somewhere on here that the camber needs resetting?  Would the broken spring affect the camber so the tyre is wearing??

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Steve

The broken spring is likely to affect camber.

Its VERY rare for front springs to break.....so you could go second hand or try ringing these boys as they sell KYB ones:

Thanks for your reply.  I'm guessing that if I put a new spring on, I'd be best off changing both sides so both springs are the same height?

ALLWAYS .. but ALLWAYS change suspension components in pairs .. you are just asking for major handling/tyre wear problems otherwise

very very good advice :y

might be worth changing dampers (depending on condition) at same time if you've got struts apart to change springs - especialy if they'll need doing soon, otherwise you'll end up paying for the camber to be set up twice ;)

why do rear springs fail quite often, but rarely the fronts?

Is it because they are more exposed to the elements  / road much at the back  :-/

Thanks for all the advice guys!!

Can anyone recommend a decent workshop manual for the 2000 2.5V6 CDX.  As far as I can see the Haynes manuals only go up to 1999, but did they change that much??  What about the CD rom manuals on Ebay??

Cheers again!! :y

Its normally because they're the driving wheels. All the load goes through those springs when you accelerate.
