Think you can only update minifacelift onwards...not sure if thats car related or gearbox related as you will no doubt have a newer gearbox than the car...

Does sound like gearbox selector switch...so either the ebay one is duff too, or the garage fitted it wrong...or misdiagnosed...

2 of these I would insist on my money back...dead easy to fit this yourself anyway...

collected the car from the garage and its doing to same thing  :-[
every thing is lighting up like a christmas tree the light P R N D 3 2 1 al light up at the same time. and then the light comes on. any thoughts

Ah, the lights! I had that when we changed mine, but first before the one from fleabay was fitted, did anyone take it apart and clean? If not, thats your first move and use switch cleaner NOT WD40. After re-fitting it has to be 'aligned' for want of a better word. So put the gear stick in P and adjust the position of the switch until only P lights up. Then continue the process until you get only the correct light for the correct gear, sound complicated but its not. Its just a case of repositioning/aligning the selector contacts to the correct position.

Do a search on 'Autobox fault' but in particular see this one

2.6 and 3.2 a bit harder due to cats. Even harder when cats were red hot ;D

Obviously, by time Mr DTM did it, cats were cooled ::)

when opened there will probably be a load of white crud and if like mine even some grit. Carefully wipe the excess then get a small dish spray the switch cleaner (Maplins) into it put the bits into and leave to soak for an hour or so. Then carefully wipe clean. In mine, one of the brass contacts had actually broken, hence a replacement. Be careful you don't stretch the rubber gasket when cleaning. Any excess switch cleaner will evaporate without residue unlike WD40.
