What tyres ?
« on: 20 November 2008, 16:46:35 »

Need a couple of tyres for my Elite 3.0 estate.....235/45 x 17....general recommendations from local places (called 5 so far) is the Pirelli P Zero Rosso and the best price I have is £87 fitted each (sounds good to me !)

There have been some recommendations for Continental (Sport Contact 3, I believe) but these are circa. £126 fitted.....

So, any recommendations ?

(Also looking for 2x 205/55 x 16 for my Seat 1.8T Toledo....seem to be getting recommended Pirelli - again ! - P6000 on the whole, although some suggest P7.....and some Continental again....any thoughts ?)

...I've used Khumos (Ecsta KH11) on my 2.2 - 225/55/R16 - they've been fine and would certainly buy them again.  They cost me approx £150 a pair fitted

Hi,

before buying anything I will recommend checking tire tests in google..

Although there are many cheap brands around , when it comes to wet

and dry braking tests (which is critical) most of those brands are lost..

And from the tests I read my conclusion is that tire subject is

exactly "you get what you pay"..

...obviously also depends on what you're using the car for - no point buying top of the range tires for bimbling around town...!!  ....basically why I went for mid-range tires.    I'm sure you've already considered this so apologies, don't mean to teach you to suck eggs...!!!

Hehe.....sucking eggs !

Seems that the world of Google tends to be pretty OK with the P Zero Rosso's.....think that it stacks up ok for these :)

For the Seat, reading up it does seem that the P6000 is perhaps not such a good tyre.....the P7 seems a little better.

TBH, I think that the usage is important here, as mentioned above, and - for the most part - my Omega is the 2nd car in the household (Seat is fair bit newer....) and thus mostly commuting and so forth. That said, will hit the motorways too, so needs something half-decent and safe from my heavy right foot !!  ;D

usage styles are of course important..if you can drive slow  :D no problem..

but a 1.7 ton monster is not easy to stop with a hand size touching area rubber

I have P7's on my Omega 225/55/16 - just had 2 on at £85 each.

They supposedly have stiffer sidewalls that help big saloon cars to corner better and quiet runners too.

The sport contact 3's are not as grippy as the 2's were.

I now have Goodyear excellence all round. I paid £437 for 5. Sure they were 235/45/17

I recently got 4 off 235 45 17 W rated,
http://www.camskill.co.uk/products.php?plid=m4b0s312p9490  £96 x4 for Goodyear F1 asymetric + £39 to fit.

I previously had Goodyear F1 GSD3 - but I couldn't source these.

I use Dunlop SP9000 or Conti SC2 on MV6 (235/45/17), with slight preference for the SP9000.

Personally wouldn't put pirellis on a skateboard, though will concede they work very well on her Rover 25.
