Absolutely no reason why it should. As you say, you are 23 years old and you have been considered for one of the top jobs in a major construction company looking after it's entire IT infrastructure. You would be responsible for every system the company runs.

I would think that your confidence should be sky high whether you get the job or not. The most important thing to do if you don't get the job is to talk to the IT director and get some feedback as to where he thought you came up short. Take it as a positive outcome and move on.
