oil cooler change or not to change?
« on: 10 December 2008, 14:51:49 »

That is the question..........................

Now my question is whilst I have the top half of the engine off, as I am replacing the thermostat, would it be better to replace the oil cooler as well? I have no creamy white sludge build up nothing in the expansion tank but just wondered its worth replacing yet or not? As some people say on here ' If it aint broken don't fix it'  Just wanted other opinions from other people and suggestions.

Keep your coolant in tip top shape and it should be fine....so my reply would be no.

Also, its a lot more to remove to do it over and above the stat

I have the complete top off, Plenum, inlet manifold, injector rail plus the black thing the injector rail sits on. I can see the oil cooler and its easy to get too with everything off, but I can see your point though MDTM. Your reply has been noted though Mark and I thought the same as you.

Yes but....you also need to remove:

Oil filter
Oil cooler pipes - block end - 19mm crows foot
Coolant bridge (new seals needed).

You then need

new oil cooler, cooler plate, sealent, cooler to pipes O rings
