Got my new door mirror !
« on: 09 November 2007, 11:30:32 »

After having had my door mirror broken off I finally managed to track one down. I tried the scrap yards suggested by members, but they were all sold out.  :'( So I googled for Vaux breakers and started phoning. These are rare items, there were a couple but they wanted huge amounts of cash  (£125 !), and sell very quickly. After phoning 59 yards, I managed to find a small yard down in Suffolk who took it off and sent it to me for £50. :y   Royal Mail sometimes screw up, I have had items lost in the past, but the mirror went off 1st class about mid day yesterday, and has just arrived, 11:20am, so well done to them.  :y  When I park the car at the house today, I'm rigging up a video camera and keeping it under survaillence.  ;D ;D ;D
Thanks to all who suggested scrap yards.

I didn't check Vx, there was somebody on Ebay selling 2nd hand ones for £100, or £125, and someone  else selling one, claiming they were £190 from Vx. Mind you he claims his will suit omegas from 94-03, but its an old style one. I think the before facelift ones will fit, the mountings look the same, but the door trim and shape is completely different.

Interesting enough, Victor Meldrew is played by Richard Wilson, who is Scottish  :y

Now, I know it's not quite the same but, rather than buying a new mirror glass from Vauxhall, go to your local glass merchant with a template and ask them to cut you a piece of 2mm silvered glass, (mirror to you and me).

It will cost them about 20p, although they save offcuts for just this reason, and they will charge you whatever they think they can get away with, but I doubt it would cost more than a tenner. Just make sure that your template is good and all should be well.

Make sure that it's 2mm you buy and you will be able to glue it to the backing and it will take on the right shape.

Yet another money saving tip from Ronco Golfbuddy.  :y

Any motor factors will sell you a stick-on mirror for about £8. Made to fit your model :y

I got one for my pre-facelift, you just have to be a bit careful putting it in place. Once it's stuck, it's stuck :o
