Power steering fluid....
« on: 16 December 2008, 13:00:03 »

Going to do a quick replenish of the power steering reservoir later as the fluid is the colour of mud and the power steering is beginning to feel a tad notchy.

What's the best stuff to use?

You will find that Dexron II & III has now been discontinued, with Dexron VI being the only Vx and Mobil oil recommended replacement for Omega's ;)

Vx Part No. 093165414  £6.71 ltr with TC. 8-)

IIRC, the advice that DexronIII could be used was revised back to Dexron II after VX found it to be incompatible with the PAS system although it is normally the case that subsequent specifications are backward compatibole. You'll still find bottles of Dex II in any motor factors although VX dealers might not stock it any more.

Kevin, all I can do is echo what my main Vx Caffyn's Dealer, who has been 100% correct on everything they have done and said so far,  told me that this was now the only ATF recommended and indeed available for Omega's.

In addition read the following web page by Mobil:
http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Other_Products/Mobil_Dexron_VI_ATF.aspx

then by GM themselves :

http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/f12/gm-introduces-dexron-vi-14532/

There is also more sites explaining Dexron VI as the one to use. ;) ;)

I am certainly using it now! :D ;)

I don't think that's in dispute - but I'd think the fact still remains that Dex3 isn't suitable for PAS?

Yep. IIRC, there's a note in TIS somewhere revising the recommendation for the PAS system back to Dex II. I agree that there should normally be no problem using anything of Dex III or greater in an automatic gearbox where the original recommendation was Dex II.

But as said Kevin my Vx dealer specifically stated that Dexron VI, on their VX central information system that they double checked for me, stated that it was the only one for the Omega PAS and the gearbox? ::) ::)

Rather them than me :y

I'd like to see some long term results, before putting it in a PAS system, personally.

Just been looking in TIS and EPC, only references to Dex 2 and 3 in there.

Not saying you are wrong by any means....but with my experience of dealers, I would want more than 1 persons word for it.

You have me worried now James; who do I believe??  :-? :-? :-?

I have always relied on the people who design and build the cars, along with the producers of the oils, to know what they are talking about and is suitable for their products.  Is that a wrong assumption? :-? ::) ::)
