How much meat is left on the front pads once the check control comes on? In other words am I OK for a couple of hundred miles over Xmas or should I nip out to the local stealers tomorrow morning? I need discs as well so I'll rather wait until after Xmas.

Also anyone fitted disc from Autovax, or is it really worth the extra for genuine parts?

Err? Have a look! It really depends on how much of an unworn lip there is on your discs. The bigger the lip, the earlier the warning light/message will appear. I had mine on for months before I did anything about it - my discs are nearing the end of their life too.

You should be ok for a couple hundred miles mate, think you can get a kit, discs and pads from Vauxhall for about £100, less with a Trade Club Card

That wouldn't trigger a fault. It's when the sensor goes open circuit that triggers it.

Must have broke as it came off the pad. Try it. Unplug the sensor from inside the wheel arch, & it'll put the light/message on. Short out the terminals in the plug & it'll get shut of the message. I've done it afew times over the years with this Omega & the Senators before it, when a sensor has worn through early. If you have a new sensor plugged into the car & just tuck it up out the way, the car will be happy & not show a light/message.

Just replaced the discs and pads. Pads were OK with 4mm left but discs had a large lip which had triggered the sensor. I used genuine Vaux parts as the local dealer was prepared to give me trade prices.

I've only got a wear sensor on the near side; I assume that's a facelift cost saving?

Get yourself a Trade Club card - the savings on standard service type items are worthwhile (cheaper than trade price)

I tend to change mine around the time the warning comes on - the last bit of the pad seems to 'go off' a bit to quickly with all the roundabouts in Milton Keynes.

Had to change the pads on the tractor a few weeks ago, and they'd only done around 3k - cooked them pretty bad, couldn't get the bit to return

3K  :-? I get 60K out of the fronts and the rears are the originals at 127K
