 :-? - just a general question, might be easy answer. Have 16" alloy on 2001 2.2dth estate - two have bent rims, looking at 17" Elite wheels to replace. Do you have to do any thing suspension wise or can you just swap them over - just different tyres.

Not worth the hassle  ..... loads of things to change over.
I'll buy your 17" Elites off though you to save you the hassle of getting rid of 'em!        




No! Just bolt them on! I don't see any reason for changing the size of the rubber already fitted to the 17"'s

not purchased the 17" yet.. just looking as tyres on three of mine are almost out as well as the bent rims. so I thought why not and go for it.

Bolt straight on and solve all your problems. I've seen full sets with 4 good tyres on them for less than the price of 4 new tyres.

Go for it; you know you want to. Replacement tyres won't be much more, if anything, either when it comes round.

avons are about 74 pounds a piece on camskill
thats the zz3's or about 80 for the zv5's
and those are 235/45/17

Will the speedo not be affected having a larger tyre. Think I read that somewhere since the tyre is larger and hence takes a longer time to do a full rotation compared with a 16" one. Ok its only an inch but it makes the difference speedo wise.

You're changing from 16" to a 17" wheel & lets say you didn't change the profile of the rubber. The extra inch diameter would put your speedo out by minus 7%. So at 100 mph you would be doing 107 mph. So at a lower speed say 10 mph it's only 0.7 mph more & so on

If you look here on page 226 you'll see that as the trye rim diameter then the profile comes down ie a 15" has a 65% profile & a 17" has a 45% profile so that the rolling radius of both sizes of tyre and rim is near enough the same, so your speedo is still happy.

just now need to get rid of two of the 5 alloys - two duff , bent and leaking air, one will keep for spare, two leff i'll post a any note in the for sale - 2 x 16" Free to a good home

There is a setting for wheel sizes on instrument panel and MID/GID/CID, with 195/65/15,235/45/17 on one setting, and 225/55/16 on another.

But ...... how will your car know? If the running diameter is the same-ish, and the speedo is the same-ish, then surely what the MID thinks is on the car is irrelevent??  :-/   :-/  :-/

the percentage ratio is a percentage ratio of the total width of the tyre though... i had an interesting time working out what tyre ratios the tyres should be on different size wheels and different width tyres...fun being the operative word
