It is the EML (Engine Management Light) .. and can be "read" using either various tools, or some underhand methods .. :)

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1189022687

If it is on continuously it indicates a "stored" fault, the method above will  "read" engine fault codes, but equipment is needed to read non-engine faults.

The light will go out once the fault condition is removed for most faults.. but for some it needs resetting (airbags problems is one).

If the light flashes continuously and the engine won't start it is an immobilisor fault

ah, i fear Entwood has missed the fact you have a 2.2 which unfortunately will not work with the pedal trick or paperclip test.
Yous will need a code reader, a basic/general purpose item as used by most independent garages will read/reset basic  engine codes, but only tech 2 will give a complete diagnostic of all the omegas systems. Where are you, hopefully you live near a tech 2 owning member, dealer is a last resort, as a rule they dont know how to use it. hth  ;)
