Smoking like a trooper
« on: 07 January 2009, 10:41:57 »

Hi recently bought a 99 V reg 2l cd saloon engine started to run a bit ruff after a couple of weeks replaced air mass sensor and also coil leads. Christmas day of all days it started to put out a battleship sized smoke screen- Out the exhaust, checked took the oil filler cap off smoke comimg out of there as well, and when i removed the dipstick out of that as well. Suggestions helpful repair possible or new engine.

ps if new engine where best to try for a reliable one

Could the smoke be steam? are you loosing coolant? Is there water in the oil? Hope its not the head gaskit. If so, repair, not to bad a job on the 4pot if the manihold studs come out ok.

Or valve stem seals, how many miles? Has it ever run low on oil, maybe if the low oil check light has failed ?
