Possibly new CDX owner - Inspection tips
« on: 11 November 2007, 19:26:56 »

Hello all, I'm hopefully gona be a new member very soonwithin the next couple of weeks.  I've been offered a CDX V reg for around 2k.  That's all I know until tomorrow when I go and have a good look at the car.

My question is can anyone give me a few tips as to what I should expect to pay for a V (not sure if this wil be '99 or '00) in immaculate condition by the quick look I gave it aqnd secondly is there anything in particular I should look for on the test drive?

Thanks and hopefully, like I say, I'll be a regular very soon.

Kind regards
Wayne

Wayne - make sure it's mint, for that money... with a recent cambelt KIT change... and make sure there are no leaking cam cover gaskets

Make sure gearchange and selection is smooth, regardless of manual or auto

If manual make sure clutch uptake is OK with no judder

Make sure it pulls and brakes in a straight line, and check for uneven tyre wear.

Howdoo Wayne, welcome to the site.  I have moved this to gen chat as it will get a better cross section of replies from more members as not evryone looks in the 'newby' bit, unfortunately....

Main thing, before anyone else, is cambelt and tensioer history,  irrespective of what VX or anyone else says, its 40k miles or 4 years, no debate in it.  Ensure you have a receipt confirming job done, otherwise budget for doing it as part of the deal or, better, get a cash discount on the purchase and use the available help here to get it done cheaper and save a few squids!!

Lots of other things to look for, will leave it for others to fill the blanks or for yourself to explore the loads of info available here yourself....

enjoy!   :y

Looks like you're already a member Wayne. Just need the car now.  :y

£2k sounds fairly reasonable to me, but will depend on the condition, mileage, spec etc. When you get more info post here and others will be only to glad to give their opinion. Not that some of them are worth having. There's even one old bloke on here who drives an Alfa Romeo and he will give his opinion on anything.  ;D

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

The car is going for an MOT tomorrow morning.   I'm then off to see it.

Can someone give me a "not looking through rose tinted glasses" opinion on the Omega.  I love big four door saloons, currently driving a Rover 800.  I get the feeling that the car is better built and the CDX has enough toys to satisfy me?

As a rough guide, I paid £1250 for my mint W reg CDX, around 100k miles, with no significant faults. But then I bought it from a member who gave me a great deal.

I'd personally value a V reg with simelar mileage at £1500 to £1800

Welcome Wayne. Spend the evening having a read of some of the earlier threads, it will give you a "feel" of the omega.

With the cambelt, make sure it has been done. Ring the garage that did it. Leaving the belt change too long is a sure fire way of killing your new car.
