EML & paperclip/pedal trick
« on: 09 February 2009, 17:22:25 »

Every now and then if my car has trouble starting it will turn the EML on, have to keep turning it off and re-starting until it has a clean start and the light stays off.
Saw in apost that the paper clip test doesnt work on a 2.2? is that right? and does the pedal trick work on a 2.2?
Also.......i read online somewhere if the car has 20-25 clean starts without the light coming on it clears the codes and it should be fine? is this true.....cheers :y

this EML light thing seems to be a common problem on all vauxhalls , or maybe just the ones ive had  ::), every vectra ( have had 3) and every omega (had 3 of them also) has had this light come on, are vauxhalls engine management systems just more problemactic than other makes?

Some manufacturers - BMW being a prime example - rarely bring on the EML, even when it detects faults, in an attempt to make it seem more reliable.

Personally, I would like the ecu to tell me when its detetced an abnormality  :-/

That may well end up with a more expensive repair though, or an unexpected breakdown.

Hence I would like to know up front so I can do something about it before I get screwed.  This is someone who broke down halfway down France due to an EML not coming on to warn of a failing sensor...

Cam sensor mate!

My Y plate used to do that,my mates garage told me to bring it in with the light on so he could plug in his Snap On computer.....

Took me ages to get it in because it was so intermitent!
Finally got it in and it was the sensor, got it changed along with the belt, tensioners and water pump....

Problem solved :y

Well the car is due its cam belt change, it was done at 40k by previous owner and car is just coming upto 80k now, the light is off tottally at the moment, even when i turn the key it will light up with the other lights but then goes off with them also so im guessing the codes have cleared on it. But like i say one false start and it will be back  ::)
Anyone know wat the average price is for a cam belt change on a 2.2 omega? wont be done at a mian dealer obviosuly lol
