Useless Information (Read if you are bored)
« on: 13 November 2007, 21:02:09 »

History of the Vauxhall badge.

Vauxhall's griffin icon dates back to the 13th century. It was on the coat of arms of Fulk le Breant, an unsavoury mercenary who was given the Manor of Luton for his services to King 'Magna Carta' John.

He married wisely, scooping an area of London south of the river along with his bride, the heiress Lady Margaret de Redvers. Their grand house and gardens, Fulk's Hall, eventually became known as Vauxhall.
Vauxhall Iron Works - predominantly marine equipment and pump manufacturer - chose the emblem from Fulk's coat of arms in deference to it's locale.

Coincidentally, the firm moved to Luton after expanding into car making in 1907, changing it's name to Vauxhall Motors.
