PSP v Nintendo DS
« on: 14 November 2007, 09:16:37 »

I have decided to buy one to help pass the time on my boring 3 hour commute to work and home

But i need some information on these hand held consoles

I know the PSP can be bought as a v1.5 where games and movies can be played from a memory stick which will be good for battery life. but it also runs something called home brew which i dont have a clue what it is.

And The Nintendo DS I know it has 2 screens and is touch sreen and thats about it  :-?

Can anyone throw some light on the subject to help me decided which to go for

Thanks
Craig

Look at the games

The PSP can be used as a meda player

The DS has some good games

An old laptop and a copy of MAME :y

The old games are the most playable anyway.

I've just bought a PSP for my lad for Xmas...It looks really good, but I'm going to get a DS for myself becasue of the choice of games...plus it's loads easier to play copied games on the DS. I have just bought 2 DVDs for my DS (when I get it) with over 200 games on, for £50.

I've had my PSP for nearly 3 years now, its software version 1.0 and it will play any game from any country   :)  i think its great, you can watch movies (UMD or ones on memory stick, but thats not legal  ;)) play games, play music and surf the net as its Wi-Fi enabled.

Home brew is very geeky and i got bored reading all about it so i wouldnt worry about it

As i have a Sony laptop with memory stick slot built in it makes transfer of allsorts very quick and very easy.

PSP is more versatile than the DS but if its just a mindless veg out game then DS is prob better, and even with the PSP i still find myself playing Tetris on my game boy advance fairly often!!

It does, BUT if like me you have an early version with a program on the memory stick it does something to the new update and reverts back to the older software version when you use the import games.

No idea how it works but it does  :)

As much as I dislike Sony, the lying crooks, no discussion of how to bypass the rather lame copy protection system in PSPs.
