« on: 07 March 2009, 18:07:54 »

right then after my previous thread ,,
i know this is long but bide your time ! ;D

i have got my car started and sounds sweet as u can imagine im very pleased  :y :y :y :y :y :y
took a while to start but did kick in ,
charged the  battery  and checked the earth straps and gave it a go and fired up she went .

right then now for the bad news ,
1 ,  oil leak on the breather from the sump
2 ,  slight tapping noise .sounds from the bottom end as ear to sump ,
  ,
i have put 15/40 oil in at the mo and going to run it a while then drain it while red hot to clean it out as water could still in places ,
what grade of oil would you reccommend???? :y
 thanks ,

Drain that goo out (15/40) as is no good for the mig engine at all it don't lik it. Replace with 10/40 which is recommended from vx. If you are getting a knocking noise from the botoom end that could be becuase you have pu 15/40 in on the other hand it could be th oil pump onit's way out. The tapping noise you are getting from the top end could be a hydraulic lifter rattling but will go quiet after a few minuetes. The oil leak could be the crankcase breather not done up enough. I am sure someone else will be along to say something else.

P.s Glad you got it going. What was it in the end?

good question , i checked everything and gave it a whirl and she fired up took some time ,
the oil def coming from breather tube  and tight , going to replace the gasket , , is 10/40  thicker than 15/40 ,  :y
i took the rocker cover off after letting it run for a while and get to temp and found slight gundge still , so just wondering if water could be in some places ,
going to use the oil in to flush it out !! :y

Yes 15/40 is thicker than 10/40. Did you check the crankcase breather tube was clear?

Did you use a new gasket on the breater tube that bolts on the crankcase at the back?

P.s I need to typr quicker :-[

I always thought the numbers related to the viscocity of the oil at operating and room temp. So 10/40 would be thinner than 15/40 at operating temp but the same when cold.  I could be mistaken though
