Ok I hate waterleaks but I have yet another.

Shes been genearlly using about 1/2 litre a week over 250 miles. I ordered all new seals for heater bridge/oil cooler and new bolts. These arrived last week and though I would leave it until this week.

Have stripped all the injection manifold off and all other bits, removed heater bridge and replaced oil cooler bolts/seals then fitted new heater bridge seals/bolts. Whilst in pieces I checked the hbv yet again and hoses and all appear ok. Put her all back togther and refilled with fluids.

On starting there was a couple of drips under car but nothing to worry about. Left her to get up to temp and clear air from system, everything appear ok again but as soon as she started to get hot on the dial water started running down the box onto the floor. Ive had a good look with the torch but am unable to see where its coming from.

U can see that its running down the block and onto exhaust and over the gearbox bellhousing and over oil filter casing.

Any ideas anyone? Im getting peeved with this one

what about thermostat housing, seal may have gone thats where mine was leaking from.

No thats fine, the leak is definatly at the back of the engine however as Im sure your aware it is incredibly difficult to see anything down there. I tried looking with thetorch but the above is all I could see but with the v6 u cant run it and get to see all the parts. Anyone got any tips  :-?

Although its running down the back of the block, that's the exact same sympton I had - when you replaced your other bits earlier was there any dis-colouration around the thermostat area.  The only other thing I can think of is core plugs, but hopefully not.  Apart from that I have no other ideas.  Sorry

sounds like hbv matey ! but could be coreplugs in heads

The only discoloration was around the back oil cooler bolt. You could see where it has been leaking onto the oil cooler plate and down the back. Thats why we replaced them.

Checking the HBV is is dry and clean, but I am wondering about the hose that goes down the back of the engine. But saying this I would have though that it was too low down for it to drip onto the joint from manifold to downpipe.

Well, my goldie no.1 (pre fl 3.0) was losing even 1 litre per day!! Changed hbv and other water pipes but was still running at the back down the metal pipe behind the engine- you could see corrosion  on bolts etc.. and in the end i chucked Bar Leak-stop and guess what! hasn`t lost a drop in the past 6months  
I know it`s best to find and replace the problem part but i`m only a woman

Im wondering that as it only appears to leak bad when started to heat up is it related in any way to the thermostat hoses. Obviously it needs to be at the back of the engine as this is where the leak is but does the thermostat opening affect any of the hoses at the rear of the engine??

Otherwise whats the best way of getting to the bottom hose on the HBV that goes to the back of the engine??

I have a leaking core plug.

Been held together fine for 2 years with radweld.

Only (possible) consequence is my heater matrix blocked at one point, easy to flush clean though, and may have been coincidence.

Which side is the leak on ?

Standing at front of the car the leak is on the right hand side at the back. Or should I say thats were the water runs down.

When laid on my back looking up from behind the passenger wheel I can see what running over the oil cannister as well as down the gearbox bellhousing. When looking from above I can see water falling onto the joint where the manifold meets the downpipe as it fizzes and creates steam.

Ok, good news  

Got her on ramps earlier today and started inspecting looking for leaks (oh this was after I got a bargain HBV and relevant hoses for a unbelievable price from ngrainey aka alex  )(Unfortunatly he did turn up in his volvo   and not an omega. Mind you he did have part of an omega in the boot  ).

On removing the plenum and injector rail the leak was obvious. One of the new seals on the left hand side of the coolant bridge was not sat properly   and was pumping water out. Removed, cleaned and refitted then rebuilt engine to then go and loose one of the star bolts at the back of the plenum that holds two hoses up out of the way. Need to get a new one of those.

On starting car there was a steady drip but we put this down to the water that escaped on strip down as after a while it dried up. Left her running for 30 mins only to notice the temp gauge wasnt moving (guessed wire had come off whilst removing everythin), however on test driving (10miles) the gauge sprang to lift and still no leaks so fingers crossed

Well Done Mate, I have a similar problem with my car, I'm losing a lot of coolant, did 20 miles today and used 1.5 liters of coolant
