Safe battery charging/jump starting
« on: 28 March 2009, 08:47:31 »

Hi everyone,
This might sound silly but is it safe to charge the battery in the car while still connected ?also where should the jump leeds be connected if a jump start is needed (like when hubby leaves his lights on) ;D
Our hamfisted effort got the tractor going but put the radio into safe mode whoops.

For trickle charging I always take off the negative lead and leave it charging. For a booster pack start use the battery terminals and for jump leads you should really use the + on the battery and a good solid ground point on the chassis/engine.

You can leave a battery connected while using a battery charger.

Thanks for that we did jump start straight from the terminals but apart from the radio I think we got away with it. :y
Any suggestions for the best accesible earth point?

not suprising the radio code is needed. You will also need to reset the one touch windows(hold switch in the up position for a couple of seconds)and reset the sunroof (hold the dial in open then closed then tilt position) hth
