A little to far to pop up then mate  ;D

I personally wouldn't do it without the locking kit, you really only have about 1/4 of an inch tollerance. You may have been lucky I suppose.

Do these symptoms sound like a faulty dis pack?

depends where you are over next weekend mate but if you are in the midlands you can drop by and check the cam timing with my kit (providing its around) and we can arrange something.

In my experience performance is very sensitive to cam timing.  Since I changed my belt, performance has improved: bank 3,4 was only out by about 3mm on the guage!

However, gut feel is that it's more likely to be dis pack than cam timing.

I'm going to be near Aylesbury next weekend, visiting friends before going across to Marham and the trackday.

Just started her up and like before, when cold, she was lovely...good response, smooth with little evidence of misfiring (although possibly a tiny bit).  Then as the fast idle dropped off misfiring becoming more apparent, until at normal idle the misfire is obvious...

This is doing my head in, always just as I'm getting ready for the trackday...last year it was a crank sensor.  >:(

You`ve either got a faulty dispack or one of the plugleads is breaking down. Have you tried having bonnet open with engine running when it`s dark to see if there`s any signs of arcing/tracking :question

No, i've not tried that.  I've relocated the dispack to the scuttle, someone has mentioned on the ABS forum about the dis pack needing to be bolted to the block for earth...

*Edit - I made up some earth leads using bolts through the dis pack and wired them straight to the battery neg terminal.  No difference.
