What exactly is a glassie noise? I can hear mine whistling a bit when the window is down, but not sure what other noises it makes?

How much miles did the car make?
Maybe the turbo is in need of cleaning, but I'm afraid it has to be done by a skilled mechanic

A bit of whistling is perfectly normal on the 2.5TDs.
In fact, I've yet to hear one that doesn't whistle.

If yours is making a 'whooshing' sound, then it's likely that the intake   hose is not seating correctly to the turbo, or even come adrift. Should this be the case, it needs to be looked at ASAP, as you'll effectively sandblast the pistons with non-filtered air.

Right, with the engine COLD, remove the intake pipe, and feel for wear in the turbine bearing.

Do this by trying to move the centre nut in an up/down and side-to-side movement. You may also find some metallic deposits inside, caused by the vanes contacting the housing.
