Check Coolant level came up on the MID a couple of days ago but coolant level is fine so I'm guessing the sensor is faulty. I seem to remember reading on threads of the same nature that it will probably mean a new header tank with sensor.

Is there anything I can check or do first before getting it replaced?

take the cap off and give the float a few jabs in case it just needs freeing.

Normally new tank time though, about £35

I have tried fiddling around with the float a few times just in case it was sticking, but no difference.

We have the same issue but I change the Coolant Tank cure the problem.

You can remove the sensor, but its really hard - I've done a few, and have a 30% success rate. Sometimes (again about 1 in 3) seem to be poor soldering on the reed switch.  If you do try to remove sensor, it has to come out absolutely straight, else it breaks.

But my last coolant bottle (few weeks ago) was £24 + VAT, so not worth the effort

particularly if you flush the coolant first, then give it a load of red

I have the same problem on 2.6v6. I change few reed relays on sensor with same results "chech coolant level"
The sensor is fine and only thing to activate them is coolant level on the tank over the float (I consider it is permanet magnet witch activate reed reley) so the only thing is wrong is float with magnet.
Do I have right???

yup.

Sometimes the float can go sticky as it heats up, causing all sorts of false readings
